SEAN BUCKLEYOne of the new breed of pioneering self-publishing authors Sean Buckley only became an author by chance. In 2010 Sean was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive form of psoriatic arthritis. The rapid spread of the disease throughout his body and the resulting struggle to combat pain and the crippling joint damage led to Sean retiring from business life in 2013. After spending almost thirty successful years working with some of the worlds leading brands in the fashion and outdoor industries, forced retirement came as an utter culture shock. Unable to work in what he considered the traditional sense, writing by means of speech recognition software became a means to keep his mind active. Sean writes from a unique perspective as someone who has lived and breathed in the cosseted world of senior executives who travel first class from one international fashion show to the next with the luxury of uncapped expense accounts and budgets that run into millions. Characters in the books frequent the luxury hotels and restaurants all of which were once part of Sean’s daily life and are described with uncanny detail.
Crime thrillers had always interested him so it was inevitable that this would be his chosen genre. The enduring mystery surrounding the death of the Italian banker Roberto Calvi appealed because of the sheer quantity of conspiracy theories that had evolved around the case. Several false starts later and after devouring information from books, newspapers and television a clear vision of the characters and how they interacted had formed in his mind. The books have developed into a platform to explore the complexity of conspiracy theory rather than the usual two-dimensional plots that seem so prevalent today. The successful publication of The Calvi Parallax in July 2014 was quickly followed by The Calvi Continuance novellas featuring Arlo Negri and Alex Bale in 2014. The second book in the Ereptio Series, Quorum, will be published in 2015. Currently Sean’s books have sold in over thirty countries around the world and despite not having been translated have sold extremely well in Austria, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Sean is married with a son and still lives in Manchester despite the climate and the effect that it has on his condition. A lover of sport in general Sean is a lifelong fan of Manchester City and religiously attends games with his family. Sean has asked that the images used on this page are of famous Mancunians or people that will always be associated with his home city. John Cooper Clarke, Ricky"Hitman" Hatton, L S Lowry, J P Joule, Oasis and Alan Turing are just some of the "Mancunians" that will be making a guest appearance on this page. This weeks famous Mancunian is Ian McShane. Ian McShane was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, on 29 September 1942, the son of Irene and her footballer husband Harry McShane. McShane grew up in Urmston and attended Stretford Grammar School. He studied at RADA and was still a student there when he appeared in his first film, 1962's The Wild and the Willing.
In Britain, McShane's best known role may be that of antiques dealer Lovejoy in the series of the same name. He also enjoyed fame in the United States as English cad Don Lockwood in the soap opera Dallas and as an English cockfighting aficionado in the miniseries Roots. Even before Lovejoy, McShane was a pin-up as a result of appearances in television series such as Wuthering Heights (1967), If it’s Tuesday, This must be Belgium (1969), Jesus of Nazareth (1977), as well as films like Sky West and Crooked (1965) and Battle of Britain (1969). In more recent times McShane has had roles in Shrek the Third, The Golden Compass, Kung Fu Panda, The Pillars of the Earth, Pirates of the Caribbean and Coraline. In the United States, he is perhaps best known for the role of historical figure Al Swearengen in the HBO series Deadwood, for which he won the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama. He was also nominated for at the 2005 Emmy Award and Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 1985, he appeared as an iconic MC on Grace Jones` Slave to the Rhythm concept album which featured his narration interspersed throughout, and which sold over a million copies worldwide.
